IT’s time for the Feather Awards!

Those who attended the announcement at Constitution Hill in Joburg yesterday were looking forward to the nominations for the Drama Queen of the Year category.

Controversial celebrities nominated for the award include Bonang Matheba, DJ Zinhle, Euphonik and AKA. They’re up against Thembisa and Anele Mdoda, and Athandwa and Fikile Kani.

Co-founder and creative director of the awards, Thami Kotlolo told Daily Sun: “Issues around the LGBTI community’s status in South Africa remain urgent and the Feathers want to be part of creating a solution for the community.

“We express our heartfelt gratitude to our nominees, past and present, who have given their unwavering support.”

Kaya FM presenter Mapaseka Mokwele said she was surprised to learn of her nomination for an award for her sexual health segment.

Mapaseka said she was grateful to be working for a station that was willing to discuss issues that affected people.

The awards are on 10 November, with venue to be announced.
