THEY THOUGHT the man with the phone was an easy target, but they were in for a nasty surprise.
Their target was DJ Tira and even if he was facing death, giving up his phone was not an option for the famous artist.
I CALLED ON THE ANCESTORS AND THEY GAVE ME THE POWER TO FIGHT, SAID TIRA.
“My phone is like my life and I had to fight back,” the Umsindo hitmaker told Daily Sun.
Tira, whose real name is Mthokozisi Khathi, said he was walking from the stage to the parking lot after a performance in Newtown, Joburg, while talking on his iPhone.
“Suddenly a phara grabbed the phone. I looked around and saw other amaphara,” he said.
“My phone has all the Fact Durban Rocks documents and I run Afrotainment from it. Losing it would mean a big loss.”
He said he suddenly gained power and wrestled with the amaphara, who tried to run away but fell.
“I had to be violent. After I took my phone back I tried to run to my car but the amaphara rushed up, trying to grab it. The security saw what was going on and came to my rescue and the amaphara ran away.”
He said he was lucky they didn’t stab him. He also believes there is some kind of connection between the Durban Finest song titled Amaphara, and the fact that he was attacked by amaphara.
“As much as I pray to God, I believe my ancestors helped me gain power.
“I have never felt so strong in my life. I didn’t open a case because my phone was not taken.”
Tira said crime is a major challenge in Mzansi.
“I believe the country’s people and the cops working together can fight it,” he said.
