Maggz is without doubt one of the best rappers in Mzansi!
His unique flow and ability to play around with words has kept him at the top of his game for the past couple of years.
The Soweto-born star whose real name is Gift Magubane took the rap scene by storm, with hit songs such as Girls, Change and
No Tweets Allowed .
And when he took a break from music, his adoring fans motivated him to make a comeback.
Maggz has collaborated with a couple of musos including AKA, DA Les, Bongani Fassie, Ma-E and K.O
The reserved artist told SunBuzz: “A lot of changes have been happening in my life. I stopped music for a while but now I’m reintroducing my brand.”
Things were going well for Maggz until the year 2010 when he and Bongani Fassie were charged with theft of musical instruments.
Even though the charges were later withdrawn, he took a big knock and this slowed things down for him.
This was after the owner of his previous record label, Lance Stehr, opened a case against them.
“This drained me . . . it knocked me down emotionally.
“I am emotionally involved in my work and most of my work was lost,” he said.
Last year, Maggz found a home at one of the most talked about labels, Cash Time Life, which is owned by multi-award winner K.O and Thabiso Khathi.
“Finding my feet again was tricky. I got comfortable working a certain way and it was not plain sailing,” he explained.
Maggz told the People’s Paper that he has known the label for a long time and they believed in him.
“We are building a legacy and it’s all about the work,” he added.
Maggz has released a new single titled Cho Dlozi which was produced by K.O, and it has been well received by music fans.
He said that he was taken by the energy of the beat.
“Songs come in different ways but with this one, it was the beat,” he said.
Speaking about his much anticipated album – which is expected to be released in September – Maggz said: “It will be one of the hottest albums in Mzansi.
“It will have a variety of sounds and skhanda, which we are turning into a movement.”
He said he would love to work with Khuli Chana, HHP and Jimmy Nevis, among others.
Maggz concluded by thanking his loyal fans for the support they have given him.
