THE late Amakhosi defender Luke Fleurs' alleged killers will appear in court on Thursday, 2 May.

This after they made a brief appearance in the Roodepoort Magistrate Court on Thursday, 25 April.

The six accused, Ndumiso Ndura Moswane (26), Fernando Nando Sive (25), Nhlakanipho Dlamini (21), Franky Xaba (25), Maredi Mphahlele (36), and Thembinkosi Hlanikhawu (31), were remanded in custody because the court wanted to examine certain aspects of their statements.

This follows their Legal Aid lawyers, Ingrid Mainule and Moshibudi Molefi, reading out their affidavits before the court.

On Friday, 19 April, they were remanded in custody after their Legal Aid representatives were absent during their second appearance.

They are all charged with murder with common purpose, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and defeating the ends of justice.

During the court proceedings, state prosecutor Paseka Temeki read their matter to the magistrate. He then told her that the Legal Aid team would represent them, and their defence lawyers were present in court.

Magistrate Delise Smith said they had to postpone this matter as the court wanted to look at certain aspects of their given statements.

Luke was killed during an alleged hijacking at a petrol station in Florida, Joburg, on Wednesday, 3 April. Gauteng police arrested the six suspects on Wednesday, 10 April.
