GROWING up, she wanted to become a journalist.
Babalwa "Babalwa M" Mavuso studied journalism and even graduated, but she struggled to find a job.
She said the dream of becoming a journalist ended up being just a dream, adding that she didn’t think she'd one day be a singer.
The Aluta Continua hitmaker from Protea Glen in Soweto said she started making music during lockdown in 2020.
“I felt like I was stuck. I was with my partner Kelvin who was already in the music space and because there was nothing to do during Covid-19 and he was always making beats, I told him I could sing. We then started making music together,” she said.
The vocalist said she started taking music seriously when they received positive feedback from the people.

“I'll forever be grateful to Kelvin for giving me the opportunity. I guess some things are just meant to be,” she said.
Babalwa M recently released an EP, titled Pisces.
“It’s basically a body of work that I put together. It was supposed to be dropped in February. Most of the songs in the EP are love tracks."
She's also known for her amapiano hits such as Pholisa Inhliziyo, Ikhaya lam and Amalobolo with her partner, Kelvin Momo.
She said the aim is to uplift people’s spirits with her songs.
Babalwa M said amapiano has changed her life.
“It has changed my life for the best. I mean, I get to share my art with people who go to different places and get to express myself,” she said.
